Martin Nelson-Jones is a partner in the corporate group in London. His areas of practice include public mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private mergers and acquisitions, equity offerings and other corporate transactions.
His transactions have included acting for:
- The Saltaire consortium (Citi Infrastructure, GIC, Infracapital and HSBC) on its £3bn takeover of Kelda Group plc (Yorkshire Water);
- EADS/Airbus on the sale and outsourcing of part of its UK manufacturing operations in a strategic partnership with GKN;
- General Dynamics Corporation on its $2.18bn acquisition of Jet Aviation Holdings AG;
- JTI on its £7.5bn takeover of Gallaher Group plc;
- EMI Group plc on its £2.4bn takeover by Terra Firma;
- The Appia consortium (Challenger, NIBC and ING) on its acquisition of the Welcome Break Group;
- Terra Firma on its £460m takeover of East Surrey Holdings plc and its subsequent disposal of Sutton & East Surrey Water;
- Macquarie on its acquisitions of Condor Ferries, Wightlink Ferries and the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company;
- Lord Kirkham on his £500m takeover of DFS Furniture Company plc;
- Groupe Danone on its disposals of Jacob's Biscuits and HP Foods;
- Schlumberger on its £3.6bn takeover of Sema plc; and
- Scottish Power on its £2bn sale of Southern Water.
Martin was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. He joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 2001. He is co-author of Butterworths' Takeovers: Law and Practice.
