Christopher Pugh is head of the firm’s dispute resolution group. He also heads our energy dispute resolution group and is a member of the international arbitration, contentious banking and financial services and TMT groups. He specialises in energy and financial services disputes and also has wide ranging general commercial litigation and arbitration experience across a range of other sectors. His work has included:
- acting for Brookfield in proceedings against Mott MacDonald arising out of the construction of Wembley Stadium;
- representing Hutchison Whampoa in a shareholder dispute in the English High Court with KPN Mobile concerning their joint venture, Hutchison 3G;
- acting for Rowan Companies in multi-jurisdictional proceedings with Amoco (UK) and the owner of the Arbroath field relating to the fitness for purpose of the Gorilla V drilling rig (Legal Business Team of the Year Award);
- representing various banks in relation to the split capital investigations;
- representing an international joint venture in relation to FCPA defences to claims for payment arising in an international arbitration;
- advising an international consortium in arbitration proceedings with its main works contractor relating to processing facilities in Kazakhstan;
- representing H3G in proceedings before the Competition Appeal Tribunal challenging its designation as SMP;
- advising various securities firms on Italian investigations into tax claims;
- advising the Arab Monetary Fund in one of the largest and most significant international fraud cases against a former officer for the recovery of over £100m;
- acting for Abbey National in a variety of commercial disputes including a series of mortgage fraud claims;
- representing Lehman Brothers in a series of actions arising out of the collapse of the Maxwell Group;
- acting for the owners of the J-Block field in wide ranging disputes with Enron in the UK and US courts; and
- advising a variety of securities firms on the BCCI, Barings and TXU collapses.
