Freshfields private equity specialist relocates to Shanghai

Dr Heiner Braun, a private equity and M&A specialist and partner in the corporate practice of international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, is to relocate from Frankfurt to the firm’s office in Shanghai. From 8 September he will be joining the corporate team in Shanghai, which currently consists of 26 lawyers, including three partners, and will be working in China for the next three years.

Heiner’s move reflects the firm’s commitment to serving clients in China’s private equity sector, where activity levels have recently seen a significant increase. Heiner’s extensive experience and expertise in this area will increase the capabilities of the firm’s existing private equity teams in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing.

Heiner comments: ‘I am very much looking forward to this new challenge. Private equity is an area that is growing fast in China, so this move is a logical step for expanding our existing practice, and enables us to draw maximum benefit from Freshfields’ wide international reach.’

Chris Bown, co-head of Freshfields’s International Private Equity group comments: ‘As a firm we always want to keep one step ahead of new developments, so that our clients can benefit from our experience and capacity for innovation. Having someone with Heiner's international deal making experience located in China will be a significant competitive advantage for our practice, enabling us to further increase the levels of service we can offer to financial investors and other companies who are already active in China or are intending to invest there.’
